WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A Palm Beach Gardens man makes a record breaking catch for Sailfish Marina. Drew Thompson caught the massive swordfish.

Weighing in at 588 pounds, it's the biggest swordfish ever caught at Sailfish Marina. The previous record was set in 1990 with a fish weighing in at 452 pounds.

He says it took five hours to reel the big fish in. "You're in 2,000 feet of water, so it takes a long time to reel that up. And it's 588 pounds, so it's a huge long battle," said Thompson.

The largest swordfish ever caught in Florida was 612 pounds.
