DELRAY BEACH, FL (WFLX) - In the past month, two Delray Beach Alzheimer's patients have been found dead after getting lost and wandering the streets.

Now, local police are stepping in to help, creating a photo database that includes a current picture and other basic information. They hope the new initiative will help them find missing patients sooner.

Raquel Cruz, with the Mae Volen Senior Center, said the program couldn't come a minute too soon. In the past 30 days, two elderly Delray Beach residents suffering from Alzheimer's have gone missing, only to be found dead. One died in a canal; the other was hit by a car.

Anyone interested in participating in the program should go to the Mae Volen Senior Center at 10 a.m. Friday. Photographs and basic information will be taken there. The center is located at 850 N. Congress Avenue in Delray Beach.
