POMPANO BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A driver, believed to have struck a Sweetwater police car and fled, led investigators on a multi-county chase Tuesday. It came to an end after crashing just south of Palm Beach Gardens.
The driver, the only person in the white four-door Mazda, weaved dangerously in and out of traffic flying through a toll booth near Land Shark Stadium.
According to Sweetwater police Chief Roberto Fulgueira, the suspect hit a Sweetwater officer's patrol car at West Flagler Street and 107th Avenue and then took off.
Miami-Dade Police and Sweetwater Police pursued the suspect onto the Florida Turnpike heading northbound.
Just south of Palm Beach Gardens, the suspect side-swiped another vehicle, hit a guardrail, and then bounced off the guardrail several times before stopping.
With the airbag deployed, the suspect had trouble trying to climb out the window where he was met by two officers with guns drawn. They quickly handcuffed him and took him into custody.
