WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) - Central Florida resident Anita Kelly wants to do her part to help earthquake victims in Haiti.
Kelly, who owns "Boutique 4 Quilters" in West Melbourne, has recruited customers and friends to help make 300 quilts for those in the earthquake-ravaged country.
Volunteers have been busy measuring Thursday, cutting and sewing together dozens of pieces of fabric squares, and turning them into everything from large quilts to baby blankets. Many of the fabric scraps have been donated.
So far, Kelly and her helpers have sewn together more than 123 blankets. They are determined to finish by Saturday.
Kelly's husband, Don Kelly, estimates there will be nearly $7,500 worth of materials invested.
