Fox29 WFLX TV, West Palm Beach, Florida-Realtors will disclose neighborhood's cancer connection

Real estate agents are reacting to the news of a cancer cluster in The Acreage.

The Realtors Association of the Palm Beaches is watching the cancer cluster situation, and they've just come out with a new disclosure form that people will have to sign before they buy or lease a home in The Acreage.

The disclosure form was just e-mailed to real estate offices Wednesday, and it basically says the Florida Department of Health and the county health department have found that residents in the area have suffered increased rates of cancer and that additional studies are being done.

The form also recommends that potential buyers do their own research, including reviewing information from the county health department. 

Health experts are in the midst of testing to determine the cause of the cancer cluster.

Last weekend, they took samples of well water at about 30 homes.

And, this week, they are doing radiation tests at homes where children have been diagnosed with brain tumors.

The disclosure form also points out that the cancer cluster has gotten extensive coverage on TV and radio and in the newspapers, and that anyone who buys or leases property should make their own determination about the safety of the property. They should not make their decision based on any statements made to them by a Realtor.
