BLOUNTSTOWN, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a 4-year-old girl and her grandfather have drowned in the Apalachicola River in Florida's Panhandle. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says the family of Eugene Jacobs and his granddaughter Alayha Jacobs contacted authorities Thursday evening when the pair failed to return from a fishing trip.
PALMETTO BAY, Fla. (AP) - The South Florida man who caught and killed the longest Burmese python ever found in Florida gets to keep the snakeskin. Jason Leon of Palmetto Bay saw a few feet of the snake sticking out of some bushes alongside a rural Miami-Dade County road on May 11. When Leon pulled the snake out into the open, it turned out to be 18 feet 8 inches long.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Restrictions have been lifted at Tallahassee Regional Airport after authorities removed a suspicious bag discovered in 1 of the terminals. Tallahassee police sent a robot into the area where the bag was discovered. Officials say the bag has been moved to a different location for further investigation.
MIAMI (AP) - Hialeah's former mayor has pleaded not guilty to federal tax evasion charges. Julio Robaina and his wife are charged with conspiring to defraud the U.S., filing a false tax return and making false statements to investigators.
