TwitterNation: Fox29WFLX is tweeting

Posted by Rachel Leigh email

(WFLX) - Have you sent a 'tweet' today? If you don't know what we're talking about, then you need to check out Twitter.

Eric Roby and Suzanne Boyd recently learned how to use the site. And, if you are followers of Fox 29, then, you have been seeing their live updates.

Apparently, Twitter is being used for more than just catching up with friends. It's what everyone is chirping about.

Twitter has been around since 2006, but just started really picking up steam. Where else can you get daily updates directly from Ashton and Demi and see insider pictures of Britney's tour? And it's been years since MCHammer came out with a new album. But, he is a hit on Twitter with more than 225,000 followers. "Because, in real life, we want to check in on what other people are doing. We always want to know what's the hottest fashion, the latest hair cut, the best movie, the hot book. So, that's why we follow each other."

If you haven't been pecked by the Twitter bird yet, here's how it works. You send a short message, 140 characters or less, explaining what you are doing, fellow Twitterers that want to see your message sign up to follow you, and you can follow others.

More companies are using the site to help find employees. The next time you go under the knife, your surgeon may be Twittering about every detail to help teach new techniques.

No matter how you use it, remember, once you tweet, there is no going back. "It's out there forever. You could Google it; you can find it. You don't want to go on there and complain about clients. You don't want to go there with bad press or anything because it can end up being negative for you."
