WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX)-The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office released information from the personnel file of Deputy Justin Clayton. He's the deputy involved in a fatal shooting in Miami Beach Monday night, while off-duty.

Deputy Justin Clayton's law career has been brief. Clayton, 26, started with the City of Lake Worth as a community service officer in 2006. He became a law enforcement officer the following year. Clayton had been a full-fledged officer for less than a year, when Lake Worth merged with the Sheriff's Office this past fall. Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera says Clayton had passed his probationary period with the agency.

Deputy Clayton was off-duty and out-of-uniform Monday night in South Beach. Police say a man, now identified as 25-year old Nicholas Burdett of Massachusetts, approached with a knife trying to rob Clayton. The deputy fired at Burdett, who later died at a hospital.

As is standard procedure, the Sheriff's Office is conducting an internal affairs investigation of the incident in Miami Beach. Deputy Clayton is on paid administrative leave, also customary.
