Lake Worth, FL (WFLX)

An intruder burst into the home of a high-ranking sheriff's official with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

A scuffle followed and the intruder was shot to death. We now have the 911 calls for help the sheriff's major and his wife made during the chaos.

Major Richard Jenkins had just gotten out of the shower last Friday morning and was getting ready for work when a stranger showed up at his house on South Palmway in Lake Worth, pounding on the front door.

Jenkins opened it just a crack, and the guy forced his way inside and they scuffled.

While they were fighting, Jenkins' wife called 911.

"911. What is your emergency? Burglary in progress. South Palmway. Off-duty sheriff's major. He's got him! Holding him right now!  Okay, who is this person who broke in? Do you know him?  G****** it, I've got a man that my husband is trying to arrest right now, South Palmway," Major Jenkins' wife told the dispatcher.

"Get off the phone and get my f***** gun!" Jenkins shouted to his wife.  "I gotta go!" she tells the dispatcher and hangs up.

Then seconds later, Major Jenkins calls 911. "I've been in an officer involved shooting. Suspect is down, I need fire-rescue!" he says.  The  gunshot is not heard during the 911 calls. The intruder who was killed is identified as 22 year old Cesar Maldonado of Lake Worth.  Major Jenkins, a 30 year veteran of the sheriff's office, received minor injuries to his wrist but has returned to work since last Friday's incident.
