WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX)-A former West Palm Beach police officer faced sentencing Wednesday and is now headed to prison.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office charged Craig Lemanowicz with breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home in the Wellington's Edge development. It happened in February of last year.

The arrest report said outside the home, deputies found a screwdriver, rubber gloves, a loaded gun and ammo. At the jail, corrections officers found a knife on Lemanowicz. He was also under a judge's order to stay away from his ex-. West Palm Beach Police fired Lemanowicz shortly after the arrest.

Last month when the former officer went to trial, the jury convicted him for the lesser crime of attempted burglary. Wednesday at sentencing, Lemanowicz's lawyer asked the judge to give his client probation. Prosecutors sought 10 years in prison. The judge settled on five years.
