Fifty Cats Seized from House

Acting on a tip,  authorities seized fifty cats from a filthy home west of Lantana.  Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control says this is a case of a cat hoarder.  They got a call from a neighbor, got a search warrant and went into the house at 4445 Morrison Avenue Wednesday and saw cats running all over the house.

Officials say there were fifty cats inside the place and no air conditioning.

No one lived there, just the cats.  Investigators took a number of still photos of the cats and the interior, and they say the place was very dirty inside and with fifty cats cooped up in a house with no open windows and no A/C, you can imagine the smell.   It was so strong,  deputies who were assisting didn't even want to go in due to the smell.

Investigators say the cats had fleas, runny eyes and runny noses, respiratory trouble, and needed veterinary care. They did have food and water, and were not malnourished. Animal care and control says a man was coming here to feed the cats, but did not actually live in the house.

"It's a shame. It's a durn shame. It really is, because it's not the cats' fault.  It's the owner's fault. And it's their fault for not taking care of 'em.  We've had enough! The whole street has had enough!" said Chris Selhorst, a neighbor on Morrison Avenue.

At this point, no one has been arrested. Animal Care and cCntrol says the man who was feeding the cats may be charged with animal cruelty for not getting medical care for the cats.

This is actually the second time authorities have seized cats from this same house.  They pulled 37 cats out of there in September 2007, but no one was charged in that incident.
