Maybe it's a sign of the tough economy. But now folks are even stealing from the needy.

Someone smashed the glass in the front door at the Adopt-A-Family Boutique and Thrift Store at 7637 South Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach about 4:30 Thursday morning.

Once inside, they emptied the contents of two tip jars and then ran out the back door.

The two jars contained a total of about $50 dollars that customers had donated to help low income families.   "I think it's pretty bad to stoop that low to uh, take money for the needy people. Especially the way times are right now. Times are really tough.  So I think it's pretty low," said Brian Bush, a thrift store volunteer.

He says the jars weren't taken, just the money inside the jars. The culprit didn't take any merchandise from the store. But it cost them $250 dollars to repair the smashed glass in the front door.

They do not have surveillance cameras, so there's no video of the crime.
