Uranium found inside Oakland Park home

Posted by Rachel Leigh email

OAKLAND PARK, FL (WFLX) - It was quite a scare down south in Broward County, where a man found a vile of uranium in his attic, never knowing he had it there to begin with.

It all happened in Oakland Park, a little north of Fort Lauderdale. Hazmat teams responded to the scene, wearing protective gear as they inspected the home where the uranium was discovered, on NE 17th Avenue.

Turns out, what the homeowner, Edward Sorrentino, found was a vile containing three ounces of powdered uranium oxide. This is not a large amount by any stretch of the imagination, but enough to cause some serious damage if inhaled.

Fortunately, no one was hurt, but like every other hazardous substance, the Sunday afternoon discovery of a small vile of powdered uranium had to be taken seriously.
