Crash in PSL: Children ejected from SUV

PORT ST LUCIE, FL (WFLX) - Two children, not wearing their seatbelts, were ejected from a SUV in a crash involving three cars. It happened Wednesday in Port St. Lucie.

Police say this is a stern warning to parents to keep children in seat belts.

A Pathfinder and a PT Cruiser collided head on at the intersection at Torino. Two children, a boy and girl, ages 9 and 6 were thrown from the SUV.

The driver of the PT Cruiser was wearing a seatbelt and only had minor injuries. The children's injuries were much more severe. A third car, parked at the stop sign at the intersection was hit during the crash. He was parked talking to his wife when the cars collided around them.

"You have to buckle the children in. It is a big concern. He got thrown out the car window there. It was terrible. She turned around and saw the boy lying there on the ground she couldn't believe it."

St. Lucie Fire Rescue airlifted one child to St. Mary's Trauma Center with head and neck injuries. The other child was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Both are expected to survive.

Police say they have yet to write citations on this crash, but so far it appears police say the SUV rolled through a stop sign into the PT Cruiser.
