West Palm Beach, FL (WFLX)

A major announcement from the White House.

The Obama administration is easing travel restrictions and money transfers to Cuba.

Magdelyn Rosa is a server at Don Ramon Cuban restaurant on south Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach and she left Cuba four  and a half years ago. She has two brothers and a sister there, and she's glad it will now be easier for her to visit them in Cuba. She spoke to us through a translator.

"I like the idea because I can visit as often as I can to Cuba, see my relatives." Rosa said.

President Obama is lifting restrictions on travel and gifts, which will clear the way for unlimited travel and money transfers by Cuban-Americans to relatives in Cuba.

The new policy also expands the gifts Cuban-Americans can send to family members to include clothing, personal hygiene items and fishing equipment.

Magdelyn likes the new policy.

"I think that it's a wonderful idea, and it's gonna help all the Cubans here and there to get together more and it's just gonna open the doors for everybody," she said.

However, not all Cuban-Americans like the new changes in U.S.-Cuba policy.

We found Maria Salazar, who came to Florida in 1962 from Cuba, having lunch at the Tropical Bakery in Palm Springs. Maria is a retired toll collector with the Florida Department of Transportation.

She says the changes Obama is making won't accomplish much.

"That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. It's not gonna help the people in Cuba?  No, it's not gonna help the people in Cuba. Why? Because it's not. That's ridiculous," Salazar said.

She says the changes announced today in Washington, to lift travel restrictions don't go far enough.

"I don't like it. They should lift up the embargo completely," said Salazar.
