WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) -  A 10-year-old boy, riding his bike to school at Berkshire Elementary, was hit by an SUV and later died at the hospital. This happened in the northbound lane of Military Trail right after Summit Boulevard around 7:40 a.m. Trauma hawk took the boy to Delray Medical Center where he passed away.

Update, TUE 12:30 PM: While the investigation was still getting underway, the boy's family showed up at the scene, visibly upset. Authorities say the accident happened as a woman was behind the wheel of her green SUV north on Military Trail. She had a green light, according to witnesses, and, at the same time, the child was riding his bike, east, near Summit Boulevard. Investigators believe the driver hit the boy, and dragged him a short way up the street.

Several people called 911.

"Well, I just heard a bang, and I looked up, and I just saw the guy rolling under the vehicle. I was in shock," Christopher Lee said. He witnessed the accident.

Police say the boy was wearing a helmet. The driver, was also visibly upset. After being questioned by police, she didn't want to speak publicly about what happened. Right now she is not facing charges.

The boy's school, Berkshire Elementary is about a half mile away from the accident scene. Grief counselors will be there throughout the day to help students.
