Madoff Victim Sells Prized Possessions

They lost a bundle, now they're selling some of their  valuables.

A West Palm Beach antiques dealer is gearing up for a sale this weekend.

Many of these things came from a Palm Beach millionaire who lost millions in the Bernie Madoff scandal, and from another wealthy guy in Jupiter Island who lost a fortune in Lehman Brothers stock.

There's quite a collection of furniture, artwork, silver and crystal.

And the people selling it,  who wish to remain anonymous,  have no choice because their investments took a hit and they need cash.

"We have known these people personally and socially for a number of years and I feel very badly for them. They were very generous people to our community," said Chris Hill of Kofski Antiques.

This is the third time in recent months that Kofski Antiques has held a sale involving things from Madoff victims.

The sale is this Saturday and Sunday at their facility at 5501 Georgia Avenue. Doors open at 9 each day.

It's expected to draw folks from as far away as New York, Atlanta and California.

Hill says it can be traumatic for the rich to have to part with their belongings.    "I'll say to them you've had the pleasure of collecting it, you've had the pleasure of owning it and enjoying it for a number of years. Just look at it as now it's time for someone else to enjoy it.  Often times that helps to soften the blow a little," Hill explained.
