Gay marriage question stirs up Miss USA pageant

Posted by Rachel Leigh email

LAS VEGAS (WFLX) - We have a new Miss USA, but it's the runner up who's stealing most of the headlines.

Miss California, Carrie Prejean, didn't win, but she's who everyone is talking about including Perez Hilton. He was one of the pageant judges and asked Prejean this question: "Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow - why or why not?"

Prejean replied, "You know what, in my country and in my family, I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anyone out there, but that's how I was raised."

Hilton, an openly gay blogger, was not pleased.

Officials from the Miss California competition say they are "saddened" by Prejean's answer.

Meanwhile, Prejean's says she had "no regrets" and was happy with the answer she gave. But, she does admit, "It did cost me my crown. It is a very touchy subject and [Hilton] is a homosexual, and I see where he was coming from, and I see the audience would've wanted me to be more politically correct. But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything."
