Missing autistic Boca teen found in California

BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - A 13-year old boy from West Boca has turned up in California after being missing all day Tuesday.

Kenton Weaver, who has autism, apparently went to California to be with his mother and other family. His father is still trying to figure how Kenton was able to make the trip.

Dean Weaver reported his son missing in the early morning hours Tuesday. Weaver's car was also gone.

Early Wednesday morning Weaver got a call from police in San Jose, California. They told him Kenton had arrived at San Jose International Airport and was in good condition. The boy is spending the night at his uncle's.  Weaver's car was located at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport.

Weaver says he's relieved Kenton is safe, but he added, "I'm just very confused as to how he got there."  Weaver told us his son's form of autism-- called Asperger's Syndrome-- causes Kenton to fixate on certain things.  One of those things is flying, says Weaver.

The previous two days, Weaver says, his son made unsuccessful attempts to leave, going to the Boca Raton Tri-Rail station.  The first time a taxi cab driver brought him home, the second time a security guard returned him to his father.

This time, though, 13-year old Kenton apparently drove his father's car to Ft. Lauderdale airport. Mr. Weaver says he doesn't believe his son had any identification with him.  How he was able to get on a flight across the country is still unknown.
