TEQUESTA, FL (WFLX) - An electrician working on a boat lift just disappeared. He was found dead in the water behind the Tequesta home he was working at.

The Tequesta Fire Rescue Dive Team found him and the Tequesta Fire Rescue dive teams were called in to look for the man after his coworkers couldn't find him.

He was called out to work on fixing the boat dock behind the house, but no one had heard from him in hours. Divers found him in three feet of murky water along the Loxahatchee River.

The man has been identified as 43-year-old Ian Adiah of Jupiter. He worked for North Atlantic Electric.

Officials say he died while trying to fix the boat lift. Investigators aren't sure how. Did he get electrocuted? Did he fall and drown? That's what they are looking into.

The investigators say there was a, "failure of the motor and the gear assembly" while he was working.

Bill Dearman is a neighbor who used to do electrical work on docks. He spoke to us because he knows first hand just how dangerous docks are because of the water. He says if anyone touches the water and touches something electrical that is "hot", a person can get electrocuted.

The medical examiner will make the final determination on the cause of death after an autopsy.
