ROYAL PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX)-Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man holding a knife to his ex-girlfriend's throat. Sheriff Ric Bradshaw credited deputies with saving the woman's life and containing a dangerous situation.

It started as a domestic call late Friday morning. The Sheriff's Office says 21-year old Gleen Gomez of Miami, forced his way into his ex-girlfriend's home near Forest Hill Boulevard and Haverhill Road. Then deputies say Gomez held a knife to the woman and ordered her to drive.

Deputies chased the red car up U.S. 441. When it turned east onto the Southern Boulevard ramp, deputies boxed them in.

"As the deputies approached the car," explained Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, "the suspect grabbed the female, pulled her over in front of his chest, and took the knife in a motion where he was going to slash her throat.

"At that point, the deputy fired and the suspect dropped the knife and was deceased. The deputy saved this woman's life," emphasized Bradshaw. "He was obviously going to slit her throat."

The woman went to the hospital with minor injuries from the altercation with Gomez. The Sheriff's Office says she will be okay.

The Sheriff also credited deputies with keeping this volatile situation down on the ramp and off the main road. He said at least two deputies fired shots. They are on paid leave, as is customary.
