WELLINGTON, FL (WFLX) - One man's bad day ruins the evening for a lot of people in Wellington. The SWAT team was called in to diffuse the situation while 50 people were forced out of their homes.

It all started with a car accident Monday morning that turned into a fight between a couple and spiraled out of control.

Due to this, school buses, full of kids coming to the Polo Lakes Community, were mingled with SWAT team snipers.

Laurie Silva and her two kids weren't allowed back home, and neither were the other neighborhood kids. So, Laurie was helping keep track of them, too. "Unfortunately, you know, there's no longer a sacred neighborhood in Florida."

It's all because sheriff's deputies say a man got into an argument with his ex. The man had been involved in a car accident, but, deputies say, he snapped becoming violent and threatened to kill himself.

His ex left and called 911. The SWAT team responded; the bomb squad showed up, as well.

Eleven-year-old Chandler Mullon snuck outside and watched it all unfold. He even captured some of the tense situation on his cell phone. He and his brother and sister were forced to evacuate, canceling a trip to the grocery store with their mom.

The standoff lasted about two hours, but it seemed like much longer for Kelsey and Donna Estrada who live in Polo Lakes. "Like five hours - it was horrifying, you know, when your child, you feel like you can't protect them."

Kelsey was stuck inside the complex while Donna was outside. She says she was a nervous wreck until deputies entered the apartment.

In the end, the man was arrested without incident. And everyone, including the Estradas, got to safely return home.
