Arson suspected in two Lake Park Wal-Mart fires

LAKE PARK, FL (WFLX) - Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue says two fires at a Lake Park Wal-Mart appear to be arson.

The sheriff's office, which is also involved in the investigation, says the two fires do not appear to be the work of the same person, and the most recent fire, which happened just Tuesday night, may have possibly been the work of a copy-cat.

Fire fighters have been called to the same Wal-Mart at 101 North Congress Avenue twice in recent days.

The first fire was about 8:30 Sunday night. In that case, a blaze was set in a dressing room and another in a rack of clothing. Another fire about 8:30 Tuesday night was started in a men's room in the Wal-Mart.

"The surveillance video is very good at Wal-Mart. They have a very high-tech surveillance system, so we should be able to come up with a suspect," said Michael Boike, arson investigator with Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue.

Boike says the video from the fire Sunday night shows an individual in the store leaving the scene of where the fires began. He did not know what the surveillance video shows from Tuesday night's fire.  Boike would not speculate on what the arsonist's motive was.
