LAKE WORTH, FL (WFLX) - Devastation is an understatement for the family of Gilberto Perez.

"He's everything to us, they took him away from us," said Elizabeth Perez, Gil's younger sister.

Next to his mother's Lake Worth Duplex on South M street is his home marked off with evidence seals.

The scene of a murder his sobbing sister is trying to come to grips with. "He's a very nice guy, who doesn't hurt anyone, a good worker, brother and good son," she said.

The 47-year-old man's body was found on his bedroom floor Saturday evening by his brother who was checking in on him.

Investigators have not released the cause of death, only to say that it was homicide.

Gil, as he was known by family and co-workers, was a long-time devoted public servant working at the West Palm Beach office of the Department of Children and Family Services where, for 11 years, he helped case workers protect children as an office administrator.

"He was very friendly, very helpful, the office is very sad," said DCF spokeswoman Elisa Cramer.

Sheriff's office detectives would not release any possible motives, but were looking to see if Gil's work or his lifestyle had anything to do with his death.

They are trying to track down anyone including taxi cab drivers, bus drivers and friends who may have seen him at the numerous gay bars he frequented.

His family is adamant that he had no enemies.

"Please come forward. He protected you and protected children. Please come forward and help us bring an end to this," said relative Maddy Estrada.

If you know anything you are urged to Call Palm Beach County Crime stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
