Washington involved: Acreage cancer cluster investigation

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Washington is now getting involved after our almost week-long investigation into the possible cancer cluster in the Acreage.

"Any of us who have children know that if we suddenly saw a pattern emerge, we would want to get to the bottom of this immediately," said Senator Bill Nelson.

So far, 30 families, all living within a three-mile radius, are affected by brain tumors.

Prior to Thursday, only our state and local health departments were investigating, but, in part because of our stories, Senator Nelson said he was calling in federal help from the U.S. Enviromental Protection Agency and the Center for Disease Control.

Senator Nelson also tells us, he sent a letter Thursday morning to the Obama Administration explaining the problem and the need for the investigation.
