Stricter Seat Belt Law Takes Effect Tomorrow

A new, stricter seatbelt law takes effect in Florida Tuesday.  Right now you can only get a ticket for not wearing a seat belt if you are pulled over for something else first.

Starting Tuesday, you can get pulled over simply for not wearing a seat belt. The new law comes with a 30-dollar fine for each violation, and $60 for any passengers under 18 years old.

Combined with court costs that puts the cost of a seatbelt ticket at around $120 to $150 for each unbuckled person in your car.

Right now seat belt compliance in the State is estimated at around 80%.  Officials are hoping with the new law to see that rise into the mid 90's.
