Riviera Beach Cracks Down on Recent Violence

Riviera Beach police kick into action a new plan to keep our streets safe Tuesday.

It's being called "Operation Safe Community", and comes as a response a recent spike in violent crime, including three murders in two months in the Riviera Beach Heights area.

Police plan to inrease their presence there, and they hope it will not only prevent crime but also solve past cases by encouraging community involvement and dialog.

For the criminal elements themselves, Riviera Beach Mayor Thomas Masters has a simple message.  "We are going to say to them, that whatever you're doing that was illegal, it needs to stop, and it needs to stop now.  We're going to say what Joe Louis said, you can run, but you can't hide."

"Operation Safe Community" kicks off Tuesday, and will run through Friday. The program will then pick back up again next Tuesday. The Mayor tells Fox 29 that it will be a sustained effort.
