Surveillance video leads to salon fire arrest

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL (WFLX)-Investigators say they've caught the man who torched a beauty salon near Palm Beach Gardens. After we aired surveillance video of the crime last week, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says a Crime Stoppers tip identified 39-year old Derek Litman as the culprit. Detectives say they confronted Litman and he has confessed.

"We feel more relaxed," said salon owner Nelcida "Nancy" Irizarry. "God forgive him, but he has to pay in jail for what he did."

Irizarry says she doesn't recognize the man who was arrested. As far as she knows, he was never in her salon before the fire.

The surveillance system Irizarry's husband installed in the salon really paid off. It captured clear video of a man wearing a suit, breaking into the salon, then dousing the place with a liquid, and setting the fire.

The Sheriff's Office says federal investigators have now taken over the case, and are looking at all possibilities, including that the man was hired.

Irizarry and her husband say they don't know how long it will take, or how much it will cost, to reopen Salon Touchee. Irizarry and the other stylists have temporarily set up shop in nearby salons.
