RIVIERA BEACH, FL (WFLX) - There's nothing better on a hot summer day than cooling off on Black Thunder or floating in the lazy river at Rapids Water Park. But kids of all ages made a pit stop between riding the rapids to meet Indy racecar driver Danica Patrick.
"So far so good; it's been a really good season," said Danica Patrick.
The racecar driver has never let gender get in the way. "I didn't really grow up thinking that I had to prove to people that I am a girl and I can do it. I wanted to prove to people that I was a great driver."
The 5-foot, 100 pound racing beauty has been featured in several commercials, but some haven't always approved. "I don't think that being in commercials that are not always liked by everyone in anyway takes away from me being a racecar driver. I'm always going to be a racecar driver."
She admits, however, to becoming more selective when it comes to advertising. "I take more and more seriously the element of being a role model and having a lot of kids watching, so there's always things transitioning in my career."
She's also learning to keep her cool. "This has been a year for me where I've taken a step back and gone, 'You know what, I don't need to be mad all the time to prove to people I'm serious'. I used to do that as a defense mechanism to show people how serious I was and how much I wanted to win, but I think that part of that might have been necessary, but I'm just glad that I've sort of transitioned into this more calm me."
Thankfully, we saw a calm Danica at Rapids Water Park, a park that prides itself with always having cool events happening throughout the summer.
