Off-duty Firefighter saves a life

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - An off duty firefighter, and a quick thinking Grandpa saved a little girl.

Martin County Firefighter Matt Himes was home an off duty on Sunday, when he heard a call about a little girl who nearly drowned. When he heard the address he realized he lived across the street. Immediately he jumped to action to save twenty-three-month old Aliyah.

The little girl was found at the bottom of her pool. Aliyah's grandfather had already started CPR when Himes arrived, all he had to do was coach them through.

Her mother said she managed to unlock the patio doors and wandered out to the patio alone. The thankful family have added security to their house, they installed a buzzer that alerts them when a door is opened in the house, and they also put a fence around the pool.
