Local Hospital Expands Preemie Care

BOCA RATON (WFLX) -- West Boca Medical center now has a bigger and better Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  The $6 million expansion of the N.I.C.U is part of an overall expansion at the hospital, at a price tag of $20 million, where a pharmacy and physical therapy unit are being added.

The N.I.C.U now has a total of 34 beds, upgraded from 24 beds before the expansion.  Babies are brought to this unit for care from South Florida and all over the country.

The unit's director, Abby Jagarnauth says, there is a superb one to one ratio of doctor-patient care.  She adds, the expansion is much needed, since they routinely were caring for premature babies beyond maximum capacity.
