Second jury picked in high profile rape case

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX)-Juries are now selected for both defendants in the first Dunbar Village rape trial. The judge and lawyers spent Wednesday picking a jury for Nathan Walker. Tuesday a jury was seated for Tommy Poindexter. Both men will be tried at the same time, in the same courtroom, but each will have his own jury.

Poindexter, age 20, and Walker, 18, and two others are accused of torturing a mother and her 12-year old son at the Dunbar Village public housing complex in 2007. Prosecutors say as many 10 young men took part in the attack, while armed and masked, pouring chemicals on the victims to hide involvement. 16-year old Avion Lawson pled guilty last week. 17-year old Jakaris Taylor is set for trial in September.

Poindexter was not present during the first session in court Wednesday. After he joined the proceedings, Judge Krista Marx warned him about his behavior. She said Sheriff's deputies had twice complained. If his actions did not improve, Judge Marx admonished, she would hold a hearing on whether Poindexter should have to wear a stun device during the trial.

The openings in the trial are now set for Monday. One of the prosecutors, Terri Skiles, is recovering from emergency surgery. Another prosecutor, Craig Williams, filled in for Wednesday.
