Arrest in zoo thefts

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX)- A city police spokesman says a 17-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the theft of 4 monkeys and a parrot at the Palm Beach Zoo.

The teen was charged with burglary and grand theft. The spokesman says animal cruelty charges are also expected.

Two other young adults are also being investigated and they could face charges too, said the spokesman.

The animals were stolen from their cages sometime early Thursday morning. After receiving multiple tips, West Palm Beach police found the animals in a shed behind an abandoned house.

The monkeys were kept in tupperware containers in sweltering heat and could have died.
