BELLE GALDE, FL (WFLX) - They watched in horror as their father shot their mother then shot himself. And if it weren't for the quick actions of her children, a local woman might have died.

Their mother is in the hospital at Delray Medical Center, in the intensive care unit, with a gunshot wound to the head. Her two boys may be too young to fully understand the severity of what happened.

Their grandmother agreed to let us speak to one of them.

He's only three, but Isaac Roberson has seen something that would be terrifying for any grown-up

Last week, he and his little 2-year-old brother, Isaiah, watched their dad, Isaac Roberson, Jr., pull out a gun and shoot their mother, Casey Gilbert, and then they saw him shoot and kill himself.

Little Isaac, despite being so young, was smart enough to realize he had to get help, so he took his little brother by the hand and went to a neighbor's apartment.

"My dad shot himself. Your dad shot himself? Yeah. Did you see that? Yeah," Isaac told us, clad in his pajamas.

"I told them, I don't want to talk about their daddy, but, I said, your mommy's in the hospital, and she loves you, though," said Tamara Martin, the boys' grandmother.

Martin says now, less than a week since the shooting last Wednesday, the little boys are, understandably, taking it "pretty rough" as she puts it. She felt we should not show their faces on camera, except for still photos. She's trying to keep them occupied with coloring books and videos.

She says people in Belle Glade have responded with clothes and other things for the boys, and someone has even offered to take the two little boys to the zoo this weekend to help them through this.

They are also going through counseling.
