Motorcyclist hospitalized after PBIR race

JUPITER, FL (WFLX) - A motorcyclist slams into a wall during a drag race in front of thousands of spectators at the Palm Beach International Raceway.

The promoter of this race says this is just another day in their dangerous business. In fact, after this accident on the track, three more happened while Fox 29 was at the scene.

Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies say 34-year-old Isidro Castillo was making a turn, he lost control of the motorcycle, and slammed into a wall. Castillo was taken by helicopter to St. Mary's Medical Center. Race officials say he had some pretty bad head injuries.

"Any type of racing is dangerous, but serious accidents are not too often. This track has had a good record," said race organizer Henry DeGouw.

The races did continue for the rest of the afternoon. The organizers of Sunday's event say they're going to open up an accident investigation; however, they do this every time someone is hurt on the tracks.
