N. FL puppy mill dogs recovering in Boca Raton

BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - The Tri County Human Society is stepping up to the plate after more than three dozen dogs were found starved and abused at a North Florida puppy mill.

A rescue league from the northern part of the state contacted the Tri County Human Society in need of desperate help.

"We just couldn't turn our backs," said Jeannette Christos who is the executive director at Tri County.

These dogs who are in dire straits were found at an abandoned puppy mill in the northern part of the state. They were simply left for dead.

 "The conditions that these dogs and puppies are from probably the most horrific I have seen in my life," said Christos

All together 50 beagles, boxers and Chihuahuas were found. Come Saturday 14 canines will begin their recovery in Boca Raton.

"They're emaciated, they have skin problems, eye problems and ear infections," said Christos.

All Health issues that will be immediately addressed when the dogs arrive in Boca. Officials say the pups will receive intensive veterinary care for several weeks. The dogs will be available for adoption in three to four weeks.
