WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The Palm Beach County School District decided Friday to give principals and teachers more flexibility in a widely criticized plan of academic initiatives.

The changes take effect immediately, and are described by the District as follows:

  • Embedded assessments (formative assessments) will be made available to schools during the  timeframe established on the assessment calendar/schedule previously provided.
  • Each school principal will have the flexibility to make the decision to use these assessments at their school/department/grade level or to develop their own school-wide assessments to assess learning/progress monitor.
  • Each school principal will have the flexibility to make the decision of when it is appropriate to administer these assessments at their school to monitor the learning of students.
