CHIPLEY, Fla. (AP) - The 5-day search for a missing baby in north Florida has finished with an unexpectedly happy ending.
Seven-month-old Shannon Dedrick was discovered alive and well, in a box under her babysitter's bed.
Washington County Sheriff Bobby Haddock said early Thursday investigators are recommending charges against the babysitter, her husband and the girl's mom. The babysitter was convicted of abusing a South Carolina girl in 1987, and questioned in a 3-year-old's disappearance the same year.
The sheriff says the odds were stacked against Shannon after her parents reported her missing Saturday. Days of exhaustive searching by 100 officers near her Chipley home and surrounding woods had produced no signs of the girl.
