BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - Matthew Marley Gallo is small, but healthy. The 4 lb, 13 oz. newborn came into the world a little sooner than his mother had planned.
The baby wasn't due until December, but Debra Gallo started having contractions Saturday night. As the Gallo family headed to Boca Raton Community Hospital, the youngest member of their family decided to come inside the family's truck on Dixie Highway.
Gallo, now a mother of five, says her new baby boy was always a mover and shaker. "The other kids would always watch my belly roll around. He was very active," she said.
"My thought was just bear down and take the pain and push, and on the last push I had a hand on the wheel, a hand on the handle bar and feet up on the ceiling."
It all happened in the parking lot of a Mobil gas station. Mrs. Gallo was in the front passenger seat of their family's truck, her husband, Tom, behind the wheel, and three of her four kids were in the back seat.
"I wasn't worrying until the 911 lady asked was he breathing, and I was like, 'Oh my gosh. I forgot about that, normally the doctor checks that,'" said Tom Gallo.
Paramedics arrived within minutes of the 911 call, massaged the baby's chest and got him breathing on his own.
