ACREAGE, FL (WFLX) - A Palm Beach County sheriff's deputy has barricaded himself inside his home while an army of investigators line the rural roadways outside.

Negotiators are now trying to communicate with Gary Giannotti, described by investigators as a "distraught deputy." Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said Giannotti has "access to firearms". Nearby homes have been evacuated.

"Our main concern is safety for people in the area."

Deputies said they received a call about a domestic dispute at the home of Gary and Erin Gianotti, located at 11256 66th Street North, Tuesday morning.

At about 9 a.m. Erin Gianotti left the couple's home calmly with their children.

Both Gary and Erin Gianotti are deputies with the Palm Beach County sheriff's office. Erin Gianotti is a former employee of the Royal Palm Beach police department and was once a spokeswoman for the department.

Investigators have swarmed the area with a SWAT team, a Sheriff negotiator and special operations.

An emergency helicopter was also called to the scene.
