Vero dog shot during break-in

VERO BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A pit bull mix is struggling to survive after, police say, the pit bull mix was shot during a break-in in Vero Beach.

Five-year-old Teddy Bear and his owner have only slept a few hours since the Friday afternoon attack that left him bandaged and bruised.

On that day, Charles Ulrich came home to a nightmare. "Blood everywhere in front of my door. And look over, and there's blood all over my couch and all over my living room floor."

Vero Beach Police say it was a break-in, and they have arrested three people, including a teen, believed to have shot the dog during the burglary. "For no reason -- over an Xbox," says Ulrich.

Teddy Bear is on pain medications and has to drink and eat through a syringe. Even though, his leg was shattered, veterinarians say, he might walk again, but using only three legs. That's not good enough for Ulrich, who says, "He won't ever be able to pull me on my skateboard again, and that was his favorite thing to do, and now he can't do it."

Teddy Bear goes in for surgery Wednesday morning. Ulrich expects the medical bills to be more than $1,000. If you'd like to help, you can e-mail nenepot@bellsouth.net.
