HOBE SOUND, Fla. (AP) - Hundreds of endangered green sea turtles are being released back into the Atlantic Ocean after being rescued from frigid water in the past week.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says about 300 of the creatures will be released in Hobe Sound Thursday afternoon. Several hundred more will be released in Juno Beach, with further releases to come. About 250 turtles were placed back into the ocean on Wednesday.

FWC officials helped rescue nearly 3,000 sea turtles from the cold ocean in the past week as temperatures in Florida dipped into the 30s.

They were brought to facilities across the state for treatment. Several hundred turtles are still being cared for.
