Is Republican Upset Brewing in District 19?

Something big has just happened in Massachusetts politics, and it has some here in south Florida wondering if it could happen here.   Republican Scott Brown scored a big upset victory in a Massachusetts district that Democrats controlled for many years.  That seat was previously held by the late Sen. Ted Kennedy.

Here in south Florida  the District 19 Congressional seat held by Democrat Robert Wexler is up for grabs, because Wexler left recently to take another job.

Could Republicans pull off an upset here, just as they did in Massachusetts this week?

"It certainly wasn't expected. It means that if either party gets so far out of the mainstream, then they can be vulnerable anywhere in the country," said Sid Dinerstein, Palm Beach County GOP chairman.

"I think this was a wake up call. So the Democratic party is not gonna be caught napping and our candidate is not gonna be caught napping," said Mark Alan Siegel, Palm Beach County Democratic Party chair.

Five candidates,  two Democrats and three Republicans,  are running for Wexler's seat.
