Voters cast ballots in race to fill Wexler's seat

BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - Voters casted their ballots Tuesday to fill a U.S. congressional seat left vacant by the midterm resignation of Representative Robert Wexler.

In the Democratic primary, state Senator Ted Deutch from Boca Raton is running against former legislator and Broward County Commissioner Ben Graber. Wexler endorsed Deutch.

In the Republican primary, financial planner Joe Budd, contractor Ed Lynch and retired police officer Curt Price are vying for the top spot.

The winners of the primary will face off on April 13 in a special election.

Wexler, 48, was a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and backed President Barack Obama during the 2008 Democratic primaries. After seven terms Wexler resigned his seat to become the president of the Washington-based Center for Middle East Peace, a non-profit policy center.
