PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Hunters are heading to the Glades and other parts of the Florida wilderness targeting pythons. Monday begins a special hunting season for "Reptiles of Concern".

Thousands of the invasive reptiles are believed to be slithering through South Florida, and the State wants their population controlled. Pythons, however, aren't the only animals on the list.

Only 39 were pythons were captured during 2009, and seven so far in 2010. That's not getting very far considering there are estimates of tens of thousands of these snakes in the wild in Florida.

Here's some good news. Wildlife officials believe as many as half of the snakes may have been killed during the winter cold snap.
