PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Palm Beach County is offering some help for homeowners trying to rid their homes of Chinese drywall. The county is reducing their property value assessment by up to 70 percent.

One Boynton Beach homeowner says he appreciates the tax break, but he's upset with with the county for another reason.

He says the building department needs to waive building permit fees for people like him, who have hired a contractor to remove the tainted drywall and make the house livable again. "It really bothers me they nickel and dime you. I can't afford to be nickel and dimed any more," said Brian Eisenberg. "The problem is, at the end of the day, the government is not taking care of us."

Barbara Alterman, the head of the Palm Beach County Planning, Zoning and Building department told us they can't waive the fees for building permits. She points out those repairing homes after hurricanes also have to pay the fees.
