Thieves steal bank account info from ATMs

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL (WFLX) - Crooks may be trying to get their hands on your cash without you even knowing what's going on.

Police released surveillance photos of some guys who, they believe, installed a skimmer on an ATM machine at the Bank of America branch at PGA Boulevard and Military Trail in Palm Beach Gardens February 21.

A skimmer is a device that fits over the card slot on the ATM, reads the magnetic strip on your credit card or ATM card, and then records your personal information. Sometimes, they will also install a pinhole camera that can record your PIN number while you're involved in the transaction at the ATM. The crooks can then grab your information.

"I'm just shocked that it would've occurred at this bank," said bank customer Tom DiLorenzo.

Police say the guys shown in the surveillance photos have done the same thing at other banks in Palm Beach County.
