Firefighter peeped as medic showered at station, police say

Carlos Marti, 36, left the St. Lucie County Jail with a jacket over his head Friday evening, as he sped off after being released on $10,000 bond on a charge of voyeurism.

Marti, a firefighter with St. Lucie County Fire-Rescue, is accused of being a peeping tom, watching a 19 year old female intern while she was taking a shower at the fire station in Ft. Pierce.

The police report says the woman heard "squeaky noises" and when she finished her shower and turned off the water, she looked up and saw a man with dark hair and bushy eyebrows up inside the ceiling looking down at her.

Marti's neighbors in Vero Beach can't believe it.

"I do believe it was poor judgement on his part," said Laura Scher.

"It raises some flags with me because I have a 14 year old daughter."

"I'm really suprised, I'm shocked. Cause he seems like a really nice guy. And I never thought he would do something like that. It just shocks me, its crazy," said her daughter Lillian Hill.

Marti told police he was trying to play a prank on the 19 year old woman, because he "wanted her to feel that she was one of the guys."

Marti says he planned to dump "flour or pancake mix on her" after her shower. He told police he was the victim of a similar prank at another fire station 7 years ago.  He's on unpaid administrative leave.
