Two grade achievement gap in Florida schools

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A new study by University of Florida
researchers finds a close relationship between where students live,
family income, and performance on standardized tests.
The researchers have been tracking students from poor and
affluent families in Alachua and Bay counties since 2006. The
students were classified into lifestyle groups based on factors
including family income and educational level, which was compared
to their performance on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.
Researchers found that students from the most affluent families
and neighborhoods had the highest scores on the FCAT. In math,
there was an achievement gap of more than two grade levels between
the richest and poorest families.
The results were presented at the American Counseling
Association's annual conference in Pittsburgh.
