WEST PALM BEACH, FL (WFLX) - The Labor Department says the economy saw its largest job gain in three years last month. By the government's count, employers added 162,000 jobs nationwide in March.
At the same time, the unemployment rate remained flat at 9.7 percent for the third straight month and published reports indicate Florida had the biggest increase in new jobs.
At the Workforce Alliance, a West Palm Beach unemployment service, staffers have noticed an increase in available positions after the organization landed a $27 million grant for the creation of new jobs.
Workforce can fund up to 80% of an employers new position through September as long as it meets certain qualifications.
So far 70 businesses have taken the incentive creating a total of 686 new Palm Beach County jobs from technical to managerial.
"These jobs are throughout Palm Beach County with a variety of employers from health care to pharmaceuticals to non-profits. We will help you find out if you are eligible for these positions," said Pat Canaan with Workforce Alliance.
It's not all rosy. In February, Florida reported a 12.2 percent unemployment rate. It's unclear how that rate will change when the March figures come out after all these new jobs.
